Homeowner Insurance Inspection

Many California consumers are not aware that most homeowner insurance companies will do an exterior inspection for a new or renewal policy. Some companies will request an interior inspection of the home as well, depending on the age of the home. When the insurance company inspects the exterior of the home, they are checking to ensure that the policy is rated appropriately and that the homeowner shows pride of ownership, among other things. The insurance companies need to protect themselves to ensure that they can provide low rates for all of their California home insurance policy holders. Any issue that poses a significant hazard will be discovered when this inspection is done. For example, if a client were to purchase a new homeowners insurance policy and the insurance company inspection determines that there is significant damage to the roof of the home, then the insurance company can request that the homeowner repair the damage to the roof in order to remain eligible for their home insurance policy. As we all know, having damage to the roof of a home would make the risk of water damage significantly higher. It would not be in the best interest of the insurance company to insure this type of risk. Does your home show pride of ownership?
